Process Water Tank

Project

A decommissioned water tank required repair and re-commissioning for process water storage in a concentrator. Due to the original foundation design and neglect during long term storage the lower strake of the tank showed significant metal loss and the foundation was failing. This exposed the critical zone of the tank to cyclic loading that would accelerate the tank and foundation failure.

Solution

Detech Engineering were engaged to assess the tank and foundation to determine the condition, then develop a repair plan to suit the business requirements. After an extensive thickness testing program and detailed costing of the repair options, it was determined that repair would be more cost effective than a new tank. Detech Engineering project managed the tank inspection, steel work repairs, concrete modifications, surface protection and hydrotesting prior to commissioning.
