To manage build up inside the cement kiln, Cement Australia required a shutdown to open the main burner doors to allow access for their gun system. Due to the size of the doors, there was significant heat exposure and shutdown periods were extended to permit a suitable drop in temperature at the doorway, to provide a safe working environment for people and equipment.

Detech Engineering were engaged to investigate and design an alternative access to minimise heat exposure and reduce the shutdown duration. A new shooting door was designed with a reduced opening. The planned shutdown duration utilising the new shooting door has reduced cool down and heat up time by more than 9 hours.
